Golems

(See also; Golemancy)

Golems were an anomaly involving the animation of inert earth to move on its own under commands issued by the creator. As of the early 20th century, with the rise of the industrial revolution, the golem anomaly has become obsolete, and cannot be recreated.

According to those whose families used to employ golems, they were loyal, following the family's every order, but had deeply human personalities. Each family's golem would have their own preferences and tastes in terms of furnishings for their storage area, decoration for their bodies, and even general shape of their body. If treated well, and deactivated each sunday, a golem could last a family entire generations. Golems were said to move like flowing water, as if shaped continuously by hands unseen. The reason this anomaly faded into antiquity was, of course, the rise of machinery to take its place. An early anomaly-enhanced machine could operate 24/7, given maintenance is performed at appropriate times, wheras golems would desire rest and needed to be taken out of service on a weekly basis. Many hope that golems can be restored to use, however, the evolution of the field of robotics has made such hopes vain.
